Sonic Speedway Report
June Long Weekend event.
Swan Hill Motor Racing
Club Hosted the Victorian State Title for the Super Rods at Sonic
Speedway last weekend.
Support classes had very
large fields with entertaining driving for the large crowd of avid
enthusiasts who braved the cold. Thirty heats were held in all to
narrow down the finalists.
Six heats narrowed down
the Sports Sedans, with drivers to watch in the final being Jack
Brennan, Zac Swanson, Jason Berger, Tristan McGraw, Scott Angus, Jay
Sanders and Marcus Reddecliffe who were the front runners in the
heats. Our comeback kid Paul Salau came 3rd
in one heat and 5th in another but unfortunately did not
take the final flag. The final was taken out by
Marcus Reddecliffe, second Tristan McGraw and third was Jack
Brennan.
The third event saw
Shaqkira Blake lose a wheel on turn three and roll her car, taking
her out of contention for the weekend.
Juniors took to the field
with ten up and coming young drivers in the speedway fraternity.
Jacob Tinworth, Harry Cecil and Anthony Hanson were the Juniors to
beat all night in the heats, it was good to see Rebecca Johnstone,
Blake Adams racing against these faster cars. They are
both gaining more experience and will be up amongst the front
runners next season for sure. New driver Emily
Hooton kept her car away from risky front runners. It was good to
watch her grow in confidence and it won’t be long before she’s up
amongst the field. The final saw Anthony Hanson take the chequered
flag followed close behind by Harry Cecil and Jacob Tinworh in
third.
Standard Saloons had a
very large field with many visiting drivers up against our locals.
Trevor Evans set the standard and was pushed all night by Daniel
Stewart, Shane Steward and Vic 2 Rhys Lansdown
but was too good for the rest of the field and took out the final.
For the Formula 500 Class
the Pioneer Cup weekend saw our local drivers put on a great show.
In the first heat Neil Bedggood rolled, which put
him out with minor injuries and a very damaged car for the next
night as well. The top three drivers in the heats for the night were
Jess Beddgood, Tom Nietvelt, Andrew Maconnachie and Terry Knowels
ready for the final on the Sunday night.
The Super Rods entered 23
Cars for the night of racing in 6 different heats and the top
drivers showing their skill after a few crashes and roll overs were
Jason Kavanagh, Stan Marco Snr, Bob Wilson, Jacob Pitcher, Troy
Gleeson, Dane Court, Michael Coad, Neville Gange (Vic 1), Shaun
Walsh and Clinten Scott. The final had 19 cars
take to the field for 25 laps of fast pace with cars getting up to
94 kmh on a 500 metre track. Jason Pitcher came in first with the
Vic 1 Neville Gange coming in second losing number 1 ranking and
finishing third was Clinten Scott.
Sunday night we were back
at the track for night two which was the Super Rods racing for
points again and for the Pioneer Cup for our local class VSC Formula
500’s
The Standards had all the
same drivers appear for the second night with Trevor Evans still on
the money only to have a major clutch problem and missing the final.
The chequered flag went to Daniel Stewart, second to Rhys
Lansdown and followed in third Shane Stewart.
The Sport Sedans had a
few extra drivers appear on the night with very close racing.
Lachlan Fitzpatrick came in first with Tristan McGraw in
second and Marcus Reddecliffe coming home in third. The best local
driver Zoey Salau could do on the night was 4th, after
her dad Paul’s 3rd place result on Saturday night.
The Juniors had the same
field again as on Saturday night with a different top three. Harry
Cecil in first, second Jacob Tinworth and on the podium in third
Owen Cecil.
Young Emily Hooton
improved over the night after averaging 60kmh top speed, increasing
to 76kmh in the final.
During the night we had a
demo of three local drivers racing Compact Speedcar which were
zooming around our track at 100km and boy were they impressive.
The Super Rods took to
the field with a few less cars than the night before, only to have
Stan Marco Snr roll his car in the Pole Shuffle in the same spot he
rolled on Saturday night and was unable to continue.
The final saw Troy Gleeson home in first with Dane Court in
second and third place getter was the new VIC 1 from Saturday nights
Title Jacob Pitcher
The Pioneer Cup had seven
Formulas in the first heat only to have Jess Bedggood not finish.
Over the three heats the drivers to watch were Terry Knowles, Tom
Nietvelt , Nathan Caddy , Jordan Caddy and Andrew Maconachie.
The final saw Jesse Bedggood return after getting her car
repaired, only to take out the Pioneer Cup followed by Nathan Caddy
and home in third was Tom Nietvelt.
The season has come to an
end, and we would like to thank all our supporters who attended, and
club members for their hard work during 2021/22 Season. Racing
recommences on 19th of Novembers 2022.
